The Certified Dental Technician program is a voluntary, national forum for the testing, recognition, and continuing education of the professional dental technician. Certification is voluntary and national in scope and must be renewed annually with renewal contingent to documented continuing education requirements including infection control. In 1988, the NBC announced a new program to recognize CDTs for outstanding achievements in the broadest range of technical and related aspects of dental technology. It is known as the NBC Fellowship Program. The first three NBC Fellowship Awards were granted in June, 1991.
The Certified Dental Laboratory program was organized by the NADL in the late 1970s as a means for the dental laboratory industry to identify those standards that distinguish professional performance in the delivery of prosthetic services to dentistry. Laboratory Certification is voluntary in nature and national in scope. Commercial dental laboratories as well as military and educational institutions participate in the program. Certification must be renewed annually.
Both programs are administered by the National Board for Certification (NBC) and are recognized and endorsed by the NADL, the ADA, the American College of Prosthodontists, and other state and national dental groups. For additional information, visit www.nadl.org.
